How to Choose the Best One?

It is necessary to familiarize oneself with an acceptance report of delivery. This is a legal document!

First, find out how many puppies does the bitch nurses. This is of great importance when you select a male puppy, because it is desirable to choose a massive one, with a strong skeleton. However, the weight - is not the main and not the only index of dog quality. For a Berner Sennenhund the size of metacarpus, the structure and strength of skeleton and limbs are of greater importance.

Second, don't agree implicitly with a choice of the dog-breeder. In course of communication with the litter the breeder begins to emotionally percept puppies and his favorite is not always the best one, besides the breeder may not be a specialist. He likes all the puppies and all of them seem to him unordinary. This is humanly understandable but the breeder is actually only a "wet nurse". Thus, pay attention to the size of metacarpus, ears (a potentially big dog will scarcely have little ears in a puppy age), peer at ear setting, strength of limbs, tail setting, which is conjunct with a slope of pelvic-bones. Don't appreciate his quality only by a construction of his head, for in male it develops for a longer time, and that is the secondary sexual characteristic.

And the main thing: listen to your heart - what puppy do you like more? Remember the longer you decide the worse you'll choose!

Third, wait until feeding, watch the behavior of the chosen puppy - does it eat heartily? Wait a little till he defecates - what about his stool? Doesn't he suffer diarrhea? Very carefully examine his body - if there are pimples on his muzzle and belly, or wet tear tracks under eyes and etc. You must carefully examine the puppy at the breeder's house because the exchange or return of puppy after purchasing is out of question.

Dog-breeder will give you an instruction for the first month of a puppy life in new house, instructions for the period of adaptation in new family, and information on primary procedures, telephone numbers of veterinaries, club contacts and so on.

Happy and exited you are on your way home, and hardly suppose what a load you've taken for the next few years. But now it is late to retreat, you should have thought BEFORE!
