Handling of Breeders

Food for male must be rich in protein: fresh meat, fish, eggs, milk and so on. The absence of A vitamin may cause disorder of spermatogenesis. It is recommended right before and right after mating to give 5-6 drops of A vitamin daily. 1 teaspoon of vegetable oil (sunflower-seed, linseed, soybean oil) a day would be a good addition. The food should contain enough vitamins and microelements, corresponding to dog physical loading, his body weight and time of year. Vitamins of B group and E vitamin are of special importance, for example "Vetzym B+E".

One should give routinely a mineral addtion to male-breeder, since lack of calcium may lead to paresis symptoms. In order to maintain a male physical form one should routinely walk with him outdoors on the leash and without the leash. It is desirable to go with him out of town on weekends and give him an opportunity to swim in a river or a lake.

A pedigree male should possess a propensity for covering a bitch and a sexual instinct, as well he should know how to do a setting, clasp strongly the sides of female in his fore legs, should have an instinct for finding the sexual slit and a pushing reflex for bringing penis into vagina. Absence of all the above-listed abilities makes a male inappropriate for breeding and he should be excluded from the breeding work, because these peculiarities are hereditary.

A care of a male-breeder includes keeping his sexual organs clean. In case of any egesta from prepuce it is recommended to syringe a pale-pink solution of manganese or yellowish solution of furacillin. Syringing with a 0.02 % chlorine-hexydine solution should be conducted also after each mating. One should do inoculations to his male-breeder in time, in order to prevent his infection from a female. Male claws should be cut and neatly filed to avoid traumatizing of female.

If you are a beginner in this sphere, it is desirable that the first mating of your male to be conducted in presence of a specialist, since there is a lot details, you may know only theoretically but can't apply in practice.
