Poodle Pointer ORIGIN : Germany.
UTILIZATION : Polyvalent hunting and pointing dog.
CLASSIFICATION FCI : Group 7 Pointing dogs
Section 1.1 Continental pointing dogs, Typ "Braque"
With working trial.

GENERAL APPEARANCE : The ideal type should be the build of a heavy type of Pointer, 60 to 65 cm height at the shoulder, with not too long, harsh, wiry coat in colour brown or the colour or dried leaves.

HEAD : Moderately long, broad, covered with rough beard and profuse eyebrows. The long, broad muzzle (not fine and pointed as with the Poodle) is to be preferred. The forehead should have a steep stop. Bridge of nose should be similar to the turned up shape of a Pointer's.

LEATHERS : Medium size, flat and close fitting, not thick and fleshy; more pointed than rounded and with sufficient covering of hair.

EYES : Large, round, fiery with bird of prey expression and yellow to yellow-brown in colour.

NECK : Medium length, clean, nape of neck arched and muscular. Breeders should strive to avoid a flat neck lacking in muscle.

BODY :
Withers : High, long and full.
Back : Short and straight.
Loins : Very muscular, hips broad.
Rump : Long and moderately sloping, well muscled.
Chest : Moderately broad and very deep. Ribs well sprung.
Belly : Tucked up towards rear, slim. Flanks short.
Tail : Should resemble a Pointer's tail in set-on. Carried horizontally without plume but covered with wiry hair. The tails of working dogs' puppies to be docked, in bitches to the lower rim of the vagina, in dogs, to cover the testicles.

LIMBS

FOREQUARTERS : Shoulders sloping, broad, long, firmly attached, muscles stand out clearly. Upper arm as well as forearm long, covered by taut muscles. Articulation of the elbow set far back. Sinews clearly visible. Front legs straight.

HINDQUARTERS : Correct angulation of bones; muscles taut, long, correspondingly thick. Hocks placed rather far back and high, distinctly angulated. Front and hind legs, seen from rear, are vertical in position.

FEET : Round with tight toes. Main attention has to be paid to robust pads. Hair on feet and toes should be short.

MEASUREMENT (PROPORTIONS) : Breeders should work to achieve a shoulder height of 60 to 65 cm. Dogs under 56 cm and bitches under 54 cm, when fully grown, should not be entered in the Stud Book under any circumstances. Length of trunk in proportion to height is 10 : 9.

COAT

HAIR : For ideal type, a medium length, harsh, dense, wiry coat is required. The lower part of the legs should have short hair.

COLOUR : Any white or black, too pale, as well as brindle colour is not permissible, unless confined to small markings.

FAULTS : Any departure from the foregoing points should be considered a fault and the seriousness with which the fault should be regarded should be in exact proportion to its degree.

N.B. : Male animals should have two apparently normal testicles fully descended into the scrotum.
