Cat has got rhinitis...

- Cat has got rhinitis.

- Cold, or rhinitis is an inflammation of mucous membrane of nose. It can be caused by cold if a cat runs the draught or becomes too cold. Rhinitis begins when one uses wash powder or liquid ammonia, when a cat breathes in acid alkali vapor, chemicals for disinfection and insecticides. All these substances cause strong irritation of mucous membrane of nose, as well as trachea and bronchi.

Rhinitis may appear as a complication caused by contagious and non-contagious diseases.

During rhinitis secretion of glands inside the cavity of nose intensifies. Mucous membrane of nose becomes red and swollen, nose ducts become contracted and egesta assimilate inside them. This results in complicated respiration, and the air doesn't get warm and doesn't clear from dust.

An ill cat breathes with difficulty, it wheezes, sneezes frequently and rubs its' nose with paws.

Egesta may be liquid and clear, or stiff and muddy.

Depression, emaciation and conjunctivitis may follow.

Treatment. First of all, one should remove the reason of disorder. If this is just cold, one should improve conditions of keeping and nourishment.

One should heat the area of nose with hot sand, put inside a little sack, 2-3 times a day. One may sprinkle the cavity of nose with boric acid solution or with 0.5-1% solution of zinc sulfate.

In case of rhinitis with stiff egesta nose ducts are sprinkled with boiled beet juice or 1% salt solution.

Besides this, one may inject 5-6 drops of ecmonovocyllinum diluted in physiological solution in ratio 1:2 in each nostril.

For irrigation of mucous membrane of nose a 0.5% solution of tannin or 1% solution of baking soda are recommended. One may carefully blow streptocid powder inside nose.

If rhinitis is with stiff egesta, one should use beet juice for irrigation of nose cavity.

In case of chronic rhinitis the treatment is the same. However in case of this disease constant egesta out of nose cause irritation of skin, so it becomes weeping. Therefore it needs to be dried. White streptocid powder is recommended several times a day.

Infectious rhinitis is treated simultaneously with the main disease; drip 5-10 drops of glasolin in each nostril.

In order to intensify the protective potential of the organism one should conduct a total ultraviolet radiation. Thymogene is also used - once a day during ten days dripped inside nose: 1-2 drops for cats, 1-8 drops for dogs; in respect to its' weight, 2-3 drops for a dog weighing 9-10 kilograms.
