Nutrition of a kitten

Appearance of a kitten in the house.

At purchasing the animal you should ask the owner of nursery about the diet of a kitten or ask him to give you a list of nutrition, to which a kitten is accustomed. To ignore the owner and his information is one of your largest mistakes, as only he knows, what this kitten likes and what dislikes.

A kitten can take pleasure in different nutrition. But you should be sure, that its ration is balanced. The special diet for kittens, which is presented in sale, is designed so that all dietary requirements are observed, and the need in the padding component is absent. Too high level of vitamins and mineral substances can provoke the same problems, than too low.

If you feed a kitten by fresh nutrition, you should know, what components are indispensable. If you do not know, call to veterinarian. Don't give to your kitten a lot of fresh meat or edible interiors. All changes in a diet should be done step-by-step. So, for example, the transition to new nutrition in the new house lasts, at least, 2 weeks.

Within the maiden 3 months of life the kitten must eat 4 times per day. By 6-7 months is necessary to change the regime of nutrition. The kitten should eat 3 times a day. The growth of animal begins to slow down approximately by one year. By this time you should feed your pet only 2 times per day.

How the nutrition can vary? An example:
Lunch - meat;
Mid-afternoon snack - egg, tinned or lactic (if animal receives milk) nutrition;
Dinner - meat or fish;
Supper - egg, tinned or lactic nutrition.

It is possible to swap lunch and mid-afternoon snack, dinner and supper, if it will be more comfortable to you. If you have not enough of time, give at first something that is possible to prepare easily and fast, and nutrition, which demands more time for cooking, put aside for other time.

The contents

Meat - rabbit, hen, turkey, beef, mutton, good-quality horse meat, fresh meat cuttings from your desktop, kidney, heart, liver, raw forcemeat of high quality. Take care of bones, take them out of the hen and rabbit, especially those, which can cracked or be slivered and can provoke the injury of a digestive tube. Large, unfissionable bones are good for chewing, especially at the age of 5-6 months when the constant teeth begin to replace lactic teeth.

The fish (welded with bones) or other white fish, sardines etc. Even if it is a good food, you should not feed your pet by fish too often.

Tinned nutrition is an excellent exit. Try this kind of food with the different contents and different versions. The tinned nutrition for kittens of high quality contains all indispensable nutrient materials and vitamins in precise proportions. However some sorts of canned food can be too rich by nutrient materials and can provoke the diarrhea.

Eggs - raw yolk (not protein) or boiled egg. If you feed a kitten by concentrated cream, this milk can be utilized for cooking an egg: put the broken egg into the boiling milk; the boiled eggs are blended with the sardines or with something else. For kittens such nutrition is very pleasant. It is better to avoid the nutrition, based on raw eggs, as it can provoke salmonellosis.

Grass - all kittens like to eat grass. You shouldn't prohibit it; on the contrary you should encourage similar attempts. You can grow up the grass in the pot. You can find it in zoological store. But be sure that your cat doesn't eat plants at home, they can be toxic.

Dry food - different kinds of dry food for kittens now are everywhere. We advise you: don't make the diet only on the base of this product; it can be dangerous to the health of your cat. At usage of dry food, you should be cautious and do not leave yours animal without fresh water - in this case your pet needs more water, than usually. Some completely balanced dry nutrition is very concentrated and can provoke the strong increase in weight. Be attentive to kittens, which are " on a becket " of a dry food and don't want to eat anything else.
